INGREDIENTS

  • 16 oz Chopped pecans (½ cup set aside for topping)
  • 1 can Sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup Brown sugar
  • 3 Large eggs
  • 12 oz Caramel sauce
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 pgk Butter pecan cake mix
  • 1 stick Salted butter, sliced into thin pats

For Serving:

  • Cool Whip
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • In a 9x13 casserole dish spray generously with Pam or any nonstick cooking spray. This dessert has lots of caramel and sweetened condensed milk, making sure the pan is coated really helps with cleanup.
  • In the casserole dish (no mixing bowl needed), add: 16 oz chopped pecans minus ½ cup to use later for topping, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, ½ cup brown sugar, 3 eggs, 12 oz jar of caramel sauce, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix everything right inside the dish until it’s fully combined. The mixture will be thick.
  • Sprinkle the butter pecan cake mix evenly over the entire surface. Don’t mix this part in! It will create that classic “dump cake” texture.
  • Take your stick of salted butter and slice it into thin pats. Lay them across the top of the dry cake mix, spacing them just enough so the butter melts and spreads while baking.
  • Scatter 1/2 cup pecans that was set aside over the very top.
  • Place your dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes so it can set slightly. Top with Cool Whip or vanilla ice cream!

NOTES

Tips & Notes• This dessert reheats beautifully. Just warm a scoop in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.• If you need to take it to a holiday party, assemble it ahead of time and bake right before leaving or bake there!• The butter pecan cake mix gives it the best flavor, but yellow cake mix will also work in a pinch.
